Frequently Asked Question

Is there an age range of students that the Youth of Africa Career Development program is specifically designed for?

YACD programs are designed to serve male & female teenage youth between the ages of 14– 21.   Dependent upon certain program partnership circumstances, exceptions can be made outside of this age range.

Will the Youth of Africa Career Development program require parents to be actively involved with their children?

While it is not mandatory for the primary caretaker to be directly involved at any phase of their child’s career development program training with YACD, we do find it as an added benefit when they have a degree of engagement.  Many parents may have a specified field that they want their child to go in due to a variety of reasons. YACD realizes that this may not be the best fit for their child’s accessed strengths & personal career interests.  It is always beneficial to sit down with the child and parent to review the program’s professional assessment of their child.

Is the YACD program free of charge for participants?

There are no fees that are taken from any of YACD's program participants nor from their caretakers.  YACD is a non-profit organization that supports youth through partnerships with well-vetted and locally registered community based organizations throughout the continent of Africa. YACD provides funding to our partners to drive our program & curriculum training initiatives.

Does YACD have any programs in place that allow college and university students to teach youth virtually or abroad?

YACD currently has a college and university internship program in place that allows students to receive approximately 30 hours of YACD curriculum training prior to them being assigned to their youth group. A Senior Education Major at Jackson State University was awarded the first ever YACD internship opportunity in 2022 in Kumasi, Ghana.  YACD is an active partner on the Handshake platform at over 30 colleges and universities with a 100 score rating.

Approximately 30% of the adult life is spent working.  YACD mentorship is like a practice bow guiding an arrow in striking the right target.

Have A Questions?

    How we can help

We provide great opportunities for professionals that are looking to volunteer with our organization as a valued partner.

Our professional partners receive the benefit of further exposing our youth to their desired career fields of entrance. They also have the potential opportunity to employ selected youth that they have mentored if applicable after their graduations. This demonstrates a genuine level of service-based compassion and is very ethically responsible.
Becoming a YACD professional youth mentor is neither time consuming nor overly demanding. College students particularly place our program in a position of greater strength due to their ability to collectively relate, effectively communicate to and understand high school aged youth. YACD volunteerism can also help fulfill college graduation requirements through the earning of needed community service hours that our organization willingly provides.
